CHENNAI: Missile technologist A. Sivathanu Pillai was awarded the Lokmanya Tilak Award for 2007 on Wednesday at Pune by Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde. Deepak Tilak, Vice-Chancellor of Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth and great grandson of Lokmanya Tilak, and space scientist Vasant Gowariker were present.
The Lokmanya Tilak Smarak Trust, which confers the award, recognised Dr. Pillai’s contribution to the development of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile in a joint venture between India and Russia, different indigenous missiles, and naval systems.
